Why did you join the Diversity and Access Team?

I joined DAT because it was my first introduction to Trinity. I remember taking the Cultural Life Tour with a now graduated intern before my acceptance. My interactions with the team were so impactful, especially because I got to hear from other Black women at Trinity. I knew I wanted to impart that feeling of empowerment onto prospective students.

What is the biggest lesson you learned from your first semester on campus?

After my first semester, I learned that you can find a second home away from home with dedication to finding community. I came in my freshman fall ambitious and joined many cultural organizations to find my best fit. Now I serve on the executive board for o-STEM and Trinity College’s Black Women Organization, so it’s been really gratifying to feel my endeavors pay off.

How has a liberal arts education fostered your thinking?

Going to a liberal arts college as a STEM major is so interesting because it offers such a holistic perspective. Especially with a minor in Black American studies, I feel like I have well-rounded perspectives on topics that I discuss in my biomedicine classes.

What legacy do you hope to leave?

After my time here, I hope to leave a legacy of empathetic leadership and dedication to service. I love the organizations I’m involved in, so hosting events with a focus on community outreach is something I want to last at Trinity.

How has the city of Hartford impacted your college experience?

Something I especially appreciate about Trinity is that it’s located in a city filled with history. There’s great food (especially the off-campus taco shops), cool events like Hartford Pride, and plenty of opportunities to give back to the community.

What areas of campus make you feel at home?

I love the Underground Coffeehouse– it’s a great space to study and chat with friends, and there’s so much beautiful artwork to take in. And on sunny days, you’ll most likely find me on a blanket on the quad!
