Alumni Audit Program

The Alumni Audit Program gives alumni the opportunity to return to Trinity for refresher courses or to enroll in new courses, without the requisite of turning in papers or taking tests. With a few exceptions, alumni and their spouses may audit courses in undergraduate or graduate courses during the academic year. The cost for auditing a course is $150 or $50 for those 62 years or older, plus any incidental fees required for the course (books, additional supplies, etc.). Permission of the instructor is required and must be obtained by the Alumni Relations Office. Since student registration takes priority, the Alumni Office generally will not notify you until shortly before classes begin.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I register for any course?
Rhetoric 101, First Year Seminars, Senior Thesis Courses, Senior Seminars, Independent Study, and classes numbered 900 and above are unavailable to auditors. All others are eligible for registration, provided there is space available and pending the instructor’s approval.

When will I be informed if I can audit the course(s) I have requested?
You will be notified shortly before the start of classes because student registration takes priority. We will notify you by phone or email, whichever you prefer.

Do I need a card or permission slip to attend classes?
No, professors are notified by the Office of Alumni Relations of any alumni who they approved to audit their class and your name will be added to the official class roster.

May I use the library and computer facilities?
Yes, alumni may obtain limited library borrowing privileges by obtaining a “Special Borrower’s Card.” This card allows the holder to have up to 5 library books checked out at any given time. Trinity alumni can obtain a Special Borrowers Card upon request at the Library & Information Technology desk anytime a supervisor is available. Applicants must present a valid photo ID.  You are also welcome to use the library’s guest computers located on Level A, with or without applying for a card.

What about parking facilities?
As a participant in the Alumni Audit Program, you may obtain a parking permit at no charge, at the Campus Safety Office, located at 76 Vernon Street.

What if I decide that I would like to receive credit for the course?
For graduate courses, credit may be received by contacting Graduate Studies before the fourth class session. For undergraduate courses, credit may be received by contacting the Registrar’s Office by the end of the add/drop period (see academic calendar). Such application assumes you have completed all the work for the course and have met all attendance requirements. If your application is approved, you will be responsible for paying the regular tuition for graduate and undergraduate courses.
