Rosanne Demanski grew up in the Elmwood section of West Hartford and, as a young child, climbed the trees on her backyard hill, looked toward the Hartford skyline, and formulated life goals: to be a “baby doctor”; to travel to India, Africa, and Guatemala where I would work in orphanages; and to go to “the beautiful school with the towers.” (Trinity College)

I became a natural baby doctor in Seattle, and moved back to my hometown to be with family while I attended Trinity to finish a bachelor’s degree which I had begun years earlier. I intended to travel the world to work in orphanages once my degree at Trinity was complete. While in school at Trinity, I was “on call” to deliver babies and was frequently paged out of class to check on mamas and families. I did house calls because I did not yet have enough money to start an office. My professors were so patient and considerate of my sudden departures from a lectures or labs, and were pleased to hear stories of successful births or healthy children which I’d share upon my return.

On graduation day in 1995, I drove toward the Trinity towers with my family and a glowing smile of excitement on my face. The Trinity grounds were beautiful and in bloom, and I paused on the Long Walk (for longer than most people around me) summoning the expansive joy of pride in the completion of two of my life goals.

I’ve yet to work in the orphanages, but life has afforded me many other adventures. I remain a part of Trinity College where I was married in the Chapel, have celebrated milestone birthdays, attended lectures, and supported Trinity as an alumnus.
