Research Opportunities
Unlike most undergraduate engineering programs, Trinity offers its engineering majors the opportunity to gain signficant research experience while completing their Bachelor’s degrees. Motivated sophomores and juniors will find opportunities to assist faculty members with their research and to design and execute their own research projects. These projects often lead to the publishing of papers and/or student presentations at professional conferences such as the meetings of the IEEE Engineering and Medicine in Biology Society, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Connecticut Microelectronics and OptiCS Consortium, and the International Digital Signal Processing Conference. Student research has been funded by the NASA Connecticut Space Grant, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, among other sources. Research credits such as these – reserved for graduate students at most institutions – often distinguish Trinity engineering majors from others when applying to graduate schools or for jobs. In addition, seniors complete a year-long design curriculum culminating in their Senior Capstone Design Project.
Summer Internships
The Trinity College Engineering Program derives substantial benefit from its location in the state capital. Its proximity to leading technological and biomedical facilities and educational institutions affords wide-ranging internship opportunities to all Engineering students. The Engineering Department sponsors a summer internship program which strives to find a placement for every Engineering major during the summer between the junior and senior year.
