Dr. Hispano Durón is a Honduran scholar and filmmaker. As a scholar he has focused his research on the history of Central American cinema. As a filmmaker he co-wrote and directed Morazan (2017), the first offical submission of Honduras to the Academy Awards for the foreign film section. In 2018, the National Congress of Honduras granted him the National Identity Award. Currently he is an Associate Professor of the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of Kansas.
He is presently working on a historical documentary film in collaboration with Trinity College Professor Dario A. Euraque.
Dr. Hispano Durón will offer an overview of the history and trends in Central American cinema of the 21st Century.
Filmmaking in Central America today is enjoying a vibrancy long associated beyond its borders with other countries in the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, especially Mexico, Cuba and Argentina.
