General Overview

An introduction to plagiarism and best practices for avoiding it, with special emphasis on citing sources correctly using the course-preferred citation style (i.e. APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.). May also include a Zotero workshop upon request.

Zotero Workshop Description

  • Students will be asked to download Zotero before class and watch our Getting Started with Zotero video.
  • In class we will go over how to use Zotero including creating folders, collections, adding sources, sharing, etc.

Objectives:

  • Cite sources correctly (in-text & bibliographic citations)
  • Find pre-generated citations in databases
  • Know where to find information to on writing and verifying pre-generated citations (Purdue Owl, Cite Source, Writing Center, etc.)
  • Use Zotero to manage and cite sources for a research project
  • Practice forward and backward citation-chaining using Google Scholar
  • Be aware of citation “politics” or which voices are silent and which are amplified in academic writing.
