Trinity College engineering majors teamed up to participate this fall in Make48, a national collaborative inventor challenge in which “Makers” compete to develop a new commercial product in a 48-hour invent-a-thon weekend. They had two days to plan, prototype, and pitch a new idea, all within the specifications of an assignment.

Trinity College has received a $10 million gift from former Trinity trustee and former Connecticut State Treasurer Francisco L. Borges ’74, H’20, his wife Luisa, and his four siblings to support financial aid for outstanding students who would not otherwise be able attend college.

Student voting rates at Trinity College increased by 21.5 percentage points in the 2020 election compared to 2016, according to a report from the Institute for Democracy and Higher Education (IDHE) at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life. Trinity received the 2021 Silver Seal award in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

The new Trinity Social Justice Initiative, launched in fall 2021, aims to increase the collaborative research and scholarly discussions of some of society’s most pressing topics, including wealth inequality, mass incarceration, policing, gender violence, and systemic racism. The initiative is led by co-directors Jordan T. Camp, assistant professor of American studies, and Christina Heatherton, assistant professor of American studies and human rights.
