Medical Insurance 101
At the beginning of the year, you will receive an email from our health insurance provider, which includes the ISO Brochure. This brochure outlines what type of treatment is covered and what it will cost. The email will also include a health insurance card. Please immediately print this card out and place it in your wallet. You could even cover it in tape or laminate it to make it stronger. You need to do this because if you ever visit a doctor outside of the Trinity health center, you will need to present it to avoid a hassle later on.
Some Insurance Terms
Premium | Amount of money you pay upfront to have an insurance policy. For international students, this totaled $1,416 in 2019. It is charged to your student billing account. |
Co-pay | The money you pay at the doctor’s office for each visit, regardless of the treatment you receive. A visit to the Student Health Center costs a co-pay of $20. An Emergency Room visit costs a $200 co-pay. |
Deductible | The amount of money you are expected to pay before the rest is covered by insurance. Your plan has a $0 deductible for “in-network” providers, including the Trinity Health Center. This means visits to the health center and other in-network providers should cost only a co-pay. |
In-network | The set of health care providers who accept your insurance. You can search for in-network providers here. |
