A Warm Invitation from the Director of Muslim Life
Dear Trinity College Community,
It brings me great joy to extend a heartfelt invitation to each of you—students, faculty, and staff—to become a part of our Muslim Life community here at Trinity. Our program is built on shared values of understanding, growth, and fellowship, and it is open to everyone, regardless of background or faith. This is a space for anyone seeking a sense of community, meaningful dialogue, or simply a moment of reflection. My door is always open, and I truly value the chance to connect with you in a way that uplifts us all.
We host several weekly opportunities to gather, connect, and learn together:
- Friday Prayer & Lunch: Each Friday, we gather at 1 PM for a short sermon and prayer, followed by lunch at 1:25 PM. Even if you can’t attend the prayer, please feel welcome to join us for lunch, as your presence adds so much to our sense of community.
- Daily Prayers: We come together each day at 12 PM and 3 PM for Dhuhr and Asr prayers. Whether you’re observing the prayer or simply taking a moment of pause, all are welcome to join in this calming space.
- Weekly Suhbah Circle: Every Monday at 6 PM, we hold our Suhbah Circle—a time to explore themes of spirituality, companionship, and reflection—where we’ll delve into Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith, with space for discussion and Q&A. This circle, inspired by the idea of Suhbah or fellowship, welcomes all and provides a warm, inclusive space for learning and growth.
- One-on-One or Small Group Meetings: Whether you want to learn about the Quran, ask questions, or simply have a conversation over tea or coffee, you’re always welcome. Feel free to drop by anytime, or use the link to schedule a time if you’d like to ensure I’m available. [Book time to meet with me].
Alongside our regular gatherings, I’m excited to introduce a variety of upcoming programs and activities designed to foster connection, learning, and interfaith dialogue across the campus community. These gatherings are a welcoming space for meaningful conversation, community building, and shared reflection.
Throughout the year, we’ll celebrate key Islamic events with inclusive gatherings, such as a Miraj program in January, Ramadan preparations in February, and community-wide iftars and suhoors. During Ramadan, we’ll organize interfaith iftars that invite students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds to come together over a meal, creating opportunities to deepen understanding and build lasting friendships. We also hope to collaborate with various student groups and local faith communities, participating in interfaith events, shared service projects, and other activities that promote respect and dialogue.
By engaging in these initiatives, we aim to make Muslim Life at Trinity a vibrant, inclusive space that bridges diverse perspectives and enriches the campus community. Your ideas, presence, and enthusiasm are essential in bringing these initiatives to life, and I look forward to our journey together in fostering a campus atmosphere of warmth, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
Warm regards,
Imam Osman Simsek
