We are committed to enhancing the natural beauty of Trinity's campus while continuing on the path of a sustainable future for Trinity.
Trinity College Arboretum
In Spring 2023, Trinity earned ArbNet Level I Arboretum Accreditation. The arboretum consists of over 1,500 trees, including two Connecticut state champion trees, an English Elm and a Temple’s Upright Sugar Maple, as well as many other notable trees. Elms feature heavily in the Arboretum, supporting Trinity’s alma mater “‘Neath the Elms.”
Biodiversity Garden and Wildlife Habitat
Trinity has a biodiversity garden and wildlife habitat that can be found outside of LSC. The garden is maintained without the use of pesticides or herbicides by the Environmental Science Department and the Grounds Crew. Students and faculty use the garden for research, as well as to attract pollinators and increase biodiversity in Hartford.
Low Mow Zones
Trinity introduced two Low Mow Zones in Spring 2023 – one on Library Hill, and one between Hallden Hall and the Wiggins Sculpture Studio. Both are mowed only 1-2 times per year to allow for the natural growth of the ecosystem. This cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions by limiting mowing, while promoting biodiversity.
